Thermometers measure 45°C

The heat wave in China is a result of high temperatures, many of them above 40°C, and low rainfall. However, the consequences of this phenomenon can be worldwide, due to the impact on the population, industry and agriculture, responsible for maintaining the country's supply chain.

In desert regions, high temperatures are normal. However, the city of Chongqing, located in the Chinese province of Sichuan, and outside the desert region, had the highest temperature ever recorded in recent times, 45°C. The minimum recorded for the entire month of August is 34.9°C.

People try to protect themselves from the heat

To manage to escape the heat, the Chinese are adopting some alternatives, such as putting blocks of ice in the offices to cool the employees, or even look for underground places to shelter, such as underground subway stations with water, air conditioning, places to sit and medicine.

Another factor associated with the intense drought in the country is its impact on the generation of electricity, due to the low levels of the rivers, responsible for the flow of water in the hydroelectric plants. In the Sichuan area, the river is at its lowest level since 1865 in the 19th century.

Thus, the country's authorities are concerned about the Chinese production chain, which depends on energy generation to function, as well as to maintain the population's quality of life.

However, a crisis in China due to drought could mean an unimaginable global impact. That's because the country is currently responsible for a large part of the world's exports of supplies, ranging from electronics to cosmetics.
