According to scientist Adamatzky, yes! In their study, small electrodes were placed in places inhabited by different types of fungi. During his research, analyzing the collected data, he noticed the presence of small electrical impulses that remained constant among the mushrooms.
In this way, it was possible to discover a pattern, which varies according to some external conditions, such as variation in light, heat and contact with different materials. When they came into contact with wood, for example, the electrical impulses between fungi increased.
Fungi are organisms of the fungi kingdom, which are distinct from plants, members of the kingdom plantae. Looking at them from a distant perspective, these beings appear to be quite inert and uninterested. However, they can maintain, in their own way, an active and constant communication with each other.
For example, still according to the study, if the humidity increases or the temperature drops, some kind of electrical impulse is manifested. This impulse is always linked to the same situation: high humidity or low temperature. Thus, the scientists involved concluded that the electrical impulse had some specific and non-random meaning.
In this sense, several other communicative impulses were detected when changing certain environmental conditions. Using these impulses, scientists were able to catalog approximately 50 different messages. They react to the presence of certain materials, and there are also warning signs when something harms or threatens them.
Furthermore, it was determined that the impulses originate from the fungal center, in a region that could be classified as its "nerve center". This has implications as it demonstrates a level of awareness and communication. The transmission of the message is made possible by a structure known as a “hypha”.
