NAME:

the yellow bag

My brother came home with a bundle. He yelled from the door:
– Aunt Brunilda's package!
Everyone ran, my sister said:
– Look how things come.
They broke the string, tore the paper, everything spilled onto the table. Then there was that confusion:
– The red dress is mine.
– Oh, what a nice necklace! It will match my sweater.
– See if there's any Uncle Julio's shirt for me.
– What a lined shoe, it seems to be my number.
I'm silly to see how Aunt Brunilda buys clothes. She buys and gets sick. It sickens everything: dress, bag, shoes, blouse. Use it three, four times and that's it: nausea. The other day I asked:

– If she gets seasick so quickly, why does she buy so much? Is it to make you sick more?
Nobody paid me any attention. Things kept coming out of the package. My mother said:
– How nice Brunilda is: she knows how we live tight and she sends more and more clothes.
I stopped doing my homework and kept spying. I saw a bag appear; everyone took it, examined it, found it ugly and let it go. Before, when Aunt Brunilda's packages arrived and there was nothing left for me, I was in such a nuisance. And if I asked for anything, people would say:
– Now Raquel, Aunt Brunilda only sends grown-up clothes, it's not for you.
Then something different happened: suddenly there was something left for me.
– Here, Raquel, it's for you.
It was the bag. It was yellow. I thought this was brilliant: for me yellow is the most beautiful color there is. But it wasn't always the same yellow: sometimes it was strong, but then it got weaker; I don't know if it's because he had already faded a little, or because he was born that way, deciding that always being the same is very boring. I don't know the name of the farm that made the yellow bag. But it was a thick farm, and if you ran your hand it would scratch a little. I looked closely and saw the threads of the farm passing one over the other; but just fine; without making a mess or anything. I like it. But what I thought was even more cool was to see that the farm stretched: “I'll be able to keep a lot of stuff in there”.
