NAME:
Back in the backyard, when today's children weren't even born, the world was very beautiful. Everywhere there were many trees, flowers and birds and butterflies of all colors. I used to live at Joãozinho's house and every day his friends came to play with me: they hugged my trunk and went up my branches until close to the sky. When tired, they ran down, laughing and talking loudly: "The last one to get down there is the priest's wife!" And I had to be very careful not to drop any of them on me. Already sleepy from playing and with a very full belly, they looked for my shadow, leaned back on my throne and slept a lot until the sun went down. We lived quite happily, until a big man, named Serjão, appeared in town, fat as a whale, with a mustache and a deep voice that was frightening. Serjão started to buy everything; he killed trees, destroyed houses. Finally, he covered the entire land with cement and built twenty-story buildings instead. Our world was getting ugly. The children had almost no more places to play marbles, no trees to climb, no land to play in,
