WhatsApp is one of the most used applications in Brazil. Its popularity grows every day because of its ease of sending messages and banking transactions. Therefore, scams on WhatsApp, consequently the number of cases of scams through the application is growing every day. Criminals use techniques to circumvent application security and also use the affective side to apply scams.
According to the Social Defense Secretariat of Pernambuco (SDS-PE), 153 cyber crimes were recorded in 2021. The Civil Police of Pernambuco advises that the victim of cyber crimes must register a police report. Complaints are essential for the police to identify and arrest those responsible for these scams.

The Elderly are the age group most likely to suffer from cyber scams due to technological developments that many cannot keep up with. Many fraudsters have chosen the elderly to be victims of their scams because they trust people more and have a reduced ability to understand technological risks.
Occurrences of Internet organized crime are on the rise because criminals are achieving large financial rewards with small costs for committing the crime. Criminals use the affective side to apply blows to the elderly, impersonating someone in the family to receive bank transfers.
You should never share your WhatsApp verification code sent via SMS with third parties, not even friends or family. If you suspect that someone else is using your WhatsApp account, you should notify your family and friends, as that person could impersonate you in conversations and groups.
On WhatsApp, enable two-step confirmation, this can be done in the app's settings. Never share personal information at anyone's request via WhatsApp and do not install third-party apps.
Finally, always be wary of contacts requesting very high amounts, do not transfer amounts to contacts that you are not completely sure of.
