the big lesson

In a small town in the interior, Seu Zé and Dona Laura live. One day, Seu Zé found a small sheep abandoned by the side of the road and decided to take it home. He and his wife soon realized that the little lamb had one leg smaller than the other and, therefore, had difficulty moving. They decided to name her Lili and put her with the other sheep they had. When she got close to the herd, Lili noticed that all the sheep looked suspicious, and started to laugh when they realized that Lili was having a hard time walking. Lili was embarrassed, but explained that she could walk slowly because her little legs were not the same size. At night, while the sheep were getting ready for bed, Lili was in her corner and saw Zezé opening the gate to make a quick escape. But, before leaving, Zeze approached Lili and began to make fun of her. Just then, a hungry wolf approached the herd and, as the gate was open, he managed to get in and went straight to Zezé. Then all the sheep woke up and fled. Less Lili! Firmly in her voice, Lili told the wolf,

– You wolf, leave us alone! Look at my leg… You were the one who hurt me when I was a baby, remember? I forgave you… And I want you to be very happy! So don't speak ill of any of us!
At that moment, the wolf recognized Lili, and moved, moved away from Zeze, disappearing into the darkness. Zezé, embarrassed, apologized and asked Lili why, instead of fleeing and protecting herself, she wanted to help her. And Lili replied:
– When I was little, my mother taught me that we should be charitable to others. In a way, to forgive is also to have charity. And, in forgiving, my heart acted with charity, benevolence and understanding not only towards the wolf, but also towards those who mocked me…
The sheep looked at each other in silence. And, from that day on, they learned a lesson: that one must have charity towards the failures of others and always try to help, in the best way possible.
