By means of a signed agreement, Santander and the central bankundertake to return approximately R$79 million to their customers for undue charges made between January 2014 and February 2022. The term of commitment between the two was published in May 2022.
The bank stated that it had already reimbursed more than 90% of the amounts charged and that it will reach the amount total amount within the established period, adding also that it adopted the necessary measures so that these charges do not return to to happen. According to the document that was sent, by September 30, 2021, Santander had already returned BRL 64.4 million.

The infractions committed by Santander concern the violation of interest collection rules on overdraft and installment operations credit card, in addition to undue charges of fees to individual entrepreneurs and micro-businesses for operations carried out through PIX.
The institution also aims to return R$ 17.65 million for undue charges of fees to individual entrepreneurs and micro-entrepreneurs by sending funds using the PIX between March 1, 2021 and February 4, 2022, an episode in which 268,583 customers were affected.
In the agreement, it is also possible to contemplate the decision that the bank needs to contact, by means of a telephone call, text message or even e-mail, the customers who were affected by such charges, in order to arrange the way in which the refund will occur, so that non-compliance with obligations will result in charges additional.
