Do men and women feel pain the same way?

There is always a question whether women feel more pain than men. Generally, they are the ones who have to endure the main pains, such as cramps, labor pains and other complications typical of female life.

A survey carried out by Canadians showed that men and women feel pain in different ways, and the explanation for this lies in the activity of some neurons in the spinal cord. Want to know more? Follow the text!

The explanation for this situation

The study was developed by researchers at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and Carleton University, both in Canada, and published by the scientific journal Brain. In it, comments are made on how men can experience pain in a different way than women.

After some tests with mice and humans, it was concluded that cells process pain signals differently in women compared to men.

The research finding is related to a sexual dimorphism in relation to the central neuronal mechanism that causes chronic pain in all species. This favors medicine to understand the extent to which pain affects its patients and how it is possible to treat each specific case.

The importance of this new discovery

For a long time, the question of how both sexes felt pain was hovering in the research universe, after all, women end up suffering from different types of pain throughout their lives. However, in a way, when researchers dedicated themselves to researching pain, they generally studied from the perspective of their guinea pigs, who were often men.

Thus, the research developed by the University of Canada changed its strategy. The study sought to investigate the spinal cord of females and males, demonstrating a breakthrough in the field of science and showing an innovative result for society.

With this, a great advance is allowed in the scientific world, in that it is possible to distinguish and seek the best forms of treatment for a given case and a given sex.
