Pix strikes have a worrying increase; see how to protect yourself

O pix is one of the best inventions of recent times, and it has certainly made everyone's financial life much easier. However, even with all the benefits, there is one very bad thing that came with it: the increase in blows.

As it is money that immediately arrives in the destination account, it is very difficult to be intercepted in these cases, much less located. And more and more blows of this type have been common. Between April and May alone, Pix scams increased by 350% compared to the previous two months. Who released this data was PSafe, which in its report claims to have blocked more than 424,000 threats of this type.

The most common scam is phishing, which consists of an easy site where victims need to put their personal data in exchange for some benefit. Another widely used tactic is social engineering, where criminals impersonate the victim's acquaintances to ask for Pix.

In these cases, criminals use the victim's WhatsApp - which at some point was hacked - to ask family and friends for money.

Below are some tips to avoid falling into one of these scams.

Register the accounts used

If you usually do Pix for people close to you, register their account in your app. This way, you can find out if the key she sent you is the same as your account or different from the application's registration. If you see any difference, do not submit until proven to be the person.

Random key for unknowns

When receiving a Pix from an unknown person, always opt for the random key, as information such as CPF, cell phone number and email are too personal to be given to anyone. This data in the wrong hands can become a danger in the hands of scammers.

Check the data before confirming the Pix

As we said in the introduction, many criminals impersonate friends or family to get the Pix. Therefore, always check the data of who will receive the money, and if it is not the name of your acquaintance, do not send it.

Don't make emergency payments without confirming identity

The previous item is a good tip, however, many scammers are already aware of it. Therefore, when hacking someone's profile, they advertise things to sell, such as furniture and appliances, and claim to be helping other people with the sale, hence the different name on the recipient.

In these cases, it's important to pay even more attention, and not send any signal of value before confirming the identity behind that Pix.

Beware of the links you receive

One of the most common methods of information and account theft by criminals is through links on social networks. Therefore, you need to be very careful before clicking on links, especially those that look very suspicious, such as those that promise free withdrawals or benefits.

Do not enter your data on suspicious sites, and whenever you need to pass on your information, make sure of its authenticity. To deceive victims, many criminals create websites with just a few different details, which in a hurry pass unnoticed, such as duplicating a letter (ameriicanas.com.br, for example), or having different endings, such as .biz, .net or .info.
