It wasn't long ago that Pixar was one of the crown jewels of the Disney empire. For 20 years, it was the most respected and loved brand in animation, churning out one modern classic after another that appealed to kids and parents alike.
But since the start of the pandemic, Disney has been pushing all Pixar movies directly to streaming, even at times when others Disney animated movies were getting theatrical releases, or hybrid releases, or available only on Disney+ at a price premium.

Circles challenge: test your knowledge on an optical illusion!
That's what happened with the magical Soul and the sweet Luca, and it's about to happen again with Pixar's latest film, Red: Growing up is a Beast. Disney announced today that the film will debut exclusively on Disney+ on March 11.
Previously, the film was scheduled to open in theaters on the same date. Recently, there has been an increase in cases of Covid-19 thanks to the Omicron variant, and this has led to some films changing release dates. But Red: Growing is a Beast is the highest-profile movie yet to skip a 2022 theatrical release entirely.

And here is the official synopsis of the film:
Disney and Pixar's “Turning Red” features Mei Lee, a confident, goofy 13-year-old torn between remaining her mother's dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. Her protective, if not a little overbearing mother, Ming, is never far from her daughter – an unfortunate reality for the teenager. And as if changing interests, relationships, and bodies weren't enough, whenever she gets too excited (which is pretty much ALWAYS), she "poof" turns into a giant red panda!
Pixar's next film after Red: Growing Up is a Beast is Lightyear, inspired by the character from the Toy Story franchise. We'll have to see if it's the film that finally returns Pixar to theaters, or if it will receive a streaming-only release. It is currently scheduled to open in theaters on June 17th.
