What is the ideal number of friends we should have in adult life?

While in high school and college it's easy to make friends, friendship in adult life works in a different way. After all, various occupations, activities, work and family occupy our time, and it becomes increasingly difficult to fit friendships into this intense routine.

Four different types of friendship

It is possible to categorize friendships into four different levels: acquaintances, casual friends, close friends and intimate friendships. Each has a different level of intimacy, commitment, and emotional attachment.

None is more important than the other, after all, acquaintances also play a role in our lives, such as maintaining superficial conversations, which can bring us knowledge and learning.

Close and intimate friends are those most inserted in our routine, conviviality and day to day life. There is a level of consideration, admiration, connection emotional and affinity. Close friends can become close friends over time.

Now that we know what the different levels of friendship are, it's time to know the ideal number of friends we should have during adult life.

Currently, it is estimated that a number of three to five friends is ideal when it comes to friendship in adult life. With that amount of friends, it is possible to have a satisfying, calm, full life with the presence of reliable people you can count on.

Having a good circle of friends can get you through difficult times, and also be a source of joy at fun times and happy occasions like birthdays. However, if you only have one or two good friends, don't worry. The fundamental thing is that you are not and not live alone in this life.
