Myth or truth: Is it better to avoid using salt when cooking corn?

Salt is one of the most used seasonings in the preparation of many different foods. In addition, this item can be very diverse, being found in many forms, such as Himalayan sea salt, flakes, handmade, Celtic gray, Hawaiian red, among others. However, regardless of which of these you tend to use, the truth is that salt in general should not be used to prepare corn.

Why salt corn only after cooking?

Corn is a food that carries many benefits for our health, such as vitamins C, B and E, in addition to minerals such as calcium, potassium and magnesium. Therefore, it is essential to avoid diseases such as cancer, intestinal problems and even type 2 diabetes. However, it needs to be prepared correctly.

In that sense, butter and salt seem to be the perfect accompaniments for boiled corn. However, during preparation, salt should be avoided to ensure a satisfactory result both in terms of flavor and maintenance of nutrients. This is because, when this item is added during cooking, it causes the corn grains to harden, in addition to causing the amount of calcium present to decrease considerably.

Therefore, if you are thinking of preparing boiled corn, the ideal is that you do not add salt to it, cooking it only in water. Leave to season it the way you prefer after cooking. Thus, you will be able to enjoy super tasty, nutritious and soft corn.
