Foods that can stain teeth

1 – Coffee

Coffee is certainly the food best known for causing teeth to darken. This is because this drink can transfer its color to the dentin, causing stains and yellowing. However, the process happens in the course of life, so be in moderation.

2 – Purple fruits

Fruits such as blackberries, purple grapes, jabuticaba, among others of this color, generate stains, mainly because they are acidic or heavily pigmented. This is because tooth enamel is porous, so eating foods with strong pigmentation can favor the transfer of pigmentation to dentin, causing stains.

3 – Soft drinks

Foods and drinks with high acidity, such as soft drinks, can modify the pH of the oral environment and, consequently, favor the loss of minerals that make up tooth enamel, making them more prone to the action of pigments present in the tooth. food.

4 – Tomato sauce

Tomato sauce combines acidity and high pigmentation, as we have seen before, and these characteristics favor stains and darkening of teeth. Therefore, have moderation in the consumption of this food, as well as ketchup.

5 – Tea

Teas often contain substances called tannins, which in turn cause stains. Some specialists suggest that it is interesting to add a little milk to the tea, due to the presence of casein, which could help to neutralize the damage caused by tannins.

6 – Red wine

Wine is known to promote dental darkening due to its acidity, which, as we have seen, favors demineralization and allows the adhesion of the natural pigments of the drink to the teeth with greater ease.

In this way, the tip is to alternate glasses of wine with a few glasses of water, in order to prevent the pigments from staying in contact with the tooth surface for a long time. In addition, this tip is also important to avoid drunkenness and dehydration that usually occur when drinking high doses of alcoholic beverages.
