Unravel the illusion: which direction is this circle moving?
The image below is an optical illusion called Mask of Love, which depicts a Venetian mask, the same ones used in Carnival costumes. Created by plastic artists, the image participated in the competition for Best Optical Illusion of the year, in 2011. Pay attention to the drawing and say what you see.
The big challenge in this illusion is identifying the face behind the mask. Many people on the internet claim to have seen a man's face, while others claim it is a woman's face. And then what do you see?
When you look more carefully, you can see that it's not one or the other. In the image, there are two different faces hidden behind the mask. Both a man and a woman. If you haven't been able to identify it, look at the image again before continuing reading and observing the way to see this in the image that comes next.
For those who could not see the presence of two faces in the image at all, the next figure may help in this regard. Notice that the two faces meet and go in the same direction. The drawn pink line manages to perfectly separate the two faces. Thus, it is possible to clearly see two people in the image, a man and a woman about to kiss.
In this optical illusion, artists make use of bistable optics. This technique consists of the possibility of our eyes seeing an image in different and equally possible ways in reality. It is for this reason that you can alternately look and see either one or two people's faces.
