The term “sapiosexual” was created in 1998 by Darren Stalder, an engineer from Seattle (USA), to describe himself. He meant that he doesn't care much about a person's physical attributes, but rather his intellectual level.
The term comes from “sapio”, a Latin word that means “I understand” or “I know”. That is, this sexual orientation concerns people who are attracted or have some sexual arousal through intellect of your partners.
The concept of sapiosexual is still not as widespread as that of being homosexual or bisexual. However, it is a sexual orientation like any other.
Even without much discussion on the subject, many people began to identify themselves by this term in the spectrum of sexuality. Among them, some very famous people. Check it out below.
Karol Conká
Talking about BBB, there is no way not to talk about her. Karol Conká declared, still in 2018, to be sapiosexual. She even joked about the term, saying it had nothing to do with frogs. “If you're just cute and you don't have a clue, you don't stand a chance with me,” she stressed.
marilyn monroe
As the term was only created in 1998, Marilyn did not declare herself sapiosexual, but commented that she found intellect to be very sensual. She even said that she was attracted to the physical Albert einstein: “We should have a child together so that he has my body and his intelligence”. The statement was meant in jest, but the attraction to smart people was real.
beautiful Gil
During a conversation with the podcast “Mil e Uma Tretas”, Bela Gil declared that this is her sexual orientation. “My self-esteem and sense of beauty is very much tied to my intellect,” he said. "I'm attracted to smart people, not necessarily pretty."
Mark Ronson
The music producer responsible for hits like “Valerie” (Amy Winehouse) and “Shallow” (Lady Gaga) also turned out to be sapiosexual. In 2019, he spoke about the subject on the program “Good Morning Britain”.
