After the Federal Government sanctioned the law that limits to 18% the ICMS (Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services) of electricity, 17 Brazilian states and the Federal District have already adhered to the tax reduction. According to a publication made by the Ministry of Mines and Energy on July 12, the reduction in the value of the energy bill across the country should be 19.5%. To calculate this drop in values, in addition to the change in ICMS, a contribution was taken into account that must be made after the appreciation of Eletrobras shares, due to its privatization.
