In addition to being a long process, the high cost of obtaining a driver's license (National Driver's License) is what most prevents some Brazilians from getting the long-awaited permission to drive. Fortunately, the Federal Government plans to reduce the price of this process by up to 80%. This is because a proposal by senator Kátia Abreu is being discussed in the Senate, and aims to end the obligation of classes in driving schools to get the document. Because of this, the proposal has raised some debates, especially in relation to the future of these institutions. After all, if approved, the project could significantly reduce the number of students and the profitability of these schools. On the other hand, some people seem excited about the possibility, as the lower costs make it more affordable. In addition, the changes will only be applied in relation to the student's learning, since the theoretical and practical tests will still be mandatory.
According to the senator, the objective of the proposal is to reduce the courses applied to citizens when obtaining a driver's license, which can considerably reduce the cost of the process. She also points out that currently, to get the CNH, some citizens can disburse up to R$ 3,000, with more than half of that amount going to driving schools. Still, the decision only applies to categories A and B.
However, the proposal still needs to be approved, as it is under analysis by the Constitution and Justice Commission. Therefore, it needs to undergo several legal and constitutional analyzes to implement the measure.
In addition to help in family or friends' vehicles, the text leaves the possibility of creating a category for independent instructors, who must be linked to the Detran. In this way, they will be able to offer private lessons to citizens who intend to take the exams to obtain a license.
In this case, these instructors must follow certain requirements, such as not having an ongoing lawsuit against them in traffic penalties, have not been convicted of a crime and have been licensed for at least three years.
