Being a housewife is not an easy task. In some cases, women do not work outside the home and their husbands end up contributing to their pensions due to the activities they carry out at home. But know that housewives have the right to apply for a pension from the INSS (National Social Security Institute).
To be eligible, they can make selective contributions, for which they must meet Social Security requirements. Check out more information!

The housewife and the maid are nothing alike for social security purposes. Although both carry out domestic activities, taking care of the house, the maid (who works outside) is compulsory insured by the INSS and the housewife, optional insured.
In practice, the difference is that the employee is obliged to contribute to the INSS (in this case, her employer), while the housewife is not.
As previously mentioned, if the housewife wishes, she can join the INSS as an optional insured. Contributions in this category can be made in three ways:
The traditional plan is aimed at housewives interested in retiring with an amount above the minimum wage. The greater the value of the benefit, the greater the contribution.
In this plan, the contribution rate is 20% between the minimum wage (R$ 1,212.00 in 2022) and the INSS ceiling (R$ 7,087.22 in 2022).
The simplified plan is for the insured person who wants to retire with the minimum wage. For these cases, the contribution will be at the rate of 11% on the minimum wage (corresponds to R$ 133.32 in 2022).
Finally, there is the option of working as a low-wage wage earner. In this case, two prerequisites must be met:
If applicable, your contribution will be based on a percentage of your minimum wage (R$60.60 in 2022).
