The elderly man was part of the Brasil Alfabetizado (PBA) program, which serves young people aged 15 and over. In Campos, most students are over 65 and live in the rural area, most of them with a life story dedicated to sugarcane cutting and crops.
Geraldo's case is no different. He worked all his life in workshops and on the farm, which prevented him from being able to study. After settling in a nursing home, the elderly person decided that he should invest in studying and enrolled in the PBA.
