After many unsuccessful attempts, recently scientists found promising results of the effect of a vaccine against HIV, tested in animals. Thus, upon receiving approval during tests in mice and primates, the vaccine is now going to be tested in humans.
The Moderna pharmaceutical laboratory is responsible for executing the first phase of the clinical trial to test the vaccine in people. So the trial is already underway, so the first participants have already received their doses.
The technology used by the vaccine against HIV is that of messenger RNA, which teaches the body to prepare the immune defense to fight the virus. In addition, scientists have developed pieces of HIV and inserted them into the vaccine, causing these elements to trigger an immune response.
The researchers also manufactured a vaccine booster, which carries virus particles, preparing an immune system defense. Thus, the laboratory's expectation is that this process will be able to act by producing antibodies that neutralize the virus.
According to information disclosed by the laboratory, the first phase of tests has 56 participants without HIV, who were divided into groups. The first team will receive one or two doses of the vaccine, while the second group will receive the vaccine and booster, and the third group will only receive the booster.
Anyway, scientists are very excited about the news, as the search for a vaccine against HIV has been a challenge that has lasted for years. So, they hope that this trial will be progress and that they will reach an effective vaccine to fight this virus.
