Unravel the illusion: which direction is this circle moving?
The most striking scene in the film is classic and shows the hero cauterizing his own skin after removing a projectile. However, other parts of the film, one of them quite unknown, came to the public at this time.
The world witnessed the return of the Taliban, an extremist Islamic group, which decided to retake Afghanistan. The same group already dominated the country between the 90s and early 2000s.
After the 9/11 terrorist attacks against the US, the Taliban were ousted from command. This is because the US government believed that the group sheltered Al-Qaeda terrorists.
After 20 years of the expulsion of the Taliban, the rebel fundamentalist group returns to power. But anyway, what does this have to do with Rambo 3?
The action classic isn't directly tied to the Taliban, of course. However, the story of Rambo 3 takes place in Afghanistan.
Played by Sylvester Stallone, the protagonist has the mission to rescue a compatriot. However, he becomes involved in the geopolitical tensions of the Middle Eastern country.
At that moment, the Soviets were trying to take definitive command of the region. Therefore, a group of Afghan rebels bravely resists the communist takeover of the former Soviet Union.
Rambo begins to admire the rebels' bravery and fights alongside them to fight the "tyrants".
One of the citizens who helps him enter Afghan territory explains that no one has managed to invade the country. Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, the United Kingdom, nobody had succeeded, although they had tried.
He says: “An old enemy said a prayer. She says: 'My God, deliver us from the venom of snakes, from the tooth of the tiger and from the vengeance of the Afghans. Do you understand what it means?
Rambo responds: "You don't give up for anything."
At the end of the film, Rambo completes the mission and returns to the US. However, there is an alternative ending, easily located on the internet.
In it, the hero decides to remain with the rebel army. “You told me that when my cycle closed, I would know my place”, says Rambo to the colonel who went to rescue. “For now, I think this is where I belong.”
The criticism is due to the comparison of the Sunni Taliban group to the same rebel group from the classic film. And there? What is your opinion?
