Second phase of 'forgotten money': see how it will work

The Central Bank disclosed that there were some amounts forgotten in banks that had accumulated over the years and that would be passed on in 2022. These amounts are estimated at a total of R$ 4 billion and may cover up to 1.6 million Brazilians.

How to request the forgotten money?

First of all, you need to understand what forgotten money is. These are sums that remained in the accounts of individuals and legal entities. This money basically comes from these sources:

• Tariffs improperly charged, whether or not provided for in the BC Term;
• Installments or obligations related to credit operations unduly charged, also not foreseen;
• Closed prepaid and postpaid payment accounts with available balance;
• Registration accounts maintained by brokerage and securities dealerships with closed balances;
• Entities in extrajudicial liquidation;
• FGC (Credit Guarantee Fund);
• FGCoop (Credit Cooperative Guarantee Fund).

If you suspect that you have forgotten some money, you can check it through the website.“Amounts Receivable”with the company's CPF or CNPJ. From the 2nd of May, the site will accept new requests from those who have forgotten money and were unable to apply the first time.

To place the order, you must register on the Gov.br, silver or gold level, and it is enough to give some information to reach these levels. Then, the site will show you a date so that you can finally transfer your money. You can choose between three transfer options: Pix, TED or DOC (the last two charge a fee). Don't worry if you forget the date, as there will be a recap period to redeem this money.
