The CNH is a mandatory document for anyone who wants to drive a vehicle in Brazil. The way to obtain this document is by passing the entire driving school process, which includes passing the theoretical and practical exams. That way, after obtaining a license to drive, you need to pay attention to the Brazilian Traffic Code to always be within the legality.
In this sense, to make it easier for drivers and ensure greater safety in traffic, the CTB has made some important changes for those who have a CNH. Check out what they were below.
One of the items that was changed concerns the extension of the validity period of the CNH. Before the change, the term was five years, but with the new rules, it was extended to 10 years for drivers up to 50 years old. Drivers aged between 50 and 69 have a five-year revalidation period, which is also longer than the previous one. In the case of drivers aged 70 or over, the validity period is three years. These amendments apply to all types of drivers, including professionals.
Another critical point is the drug test. Those under 70 who qualify in categories C, D or E must take this exam within two years and six months, regardless of the validity of the CNH. And, if the driver does not show up to take the exam within the deadline, it will be considered a very serious infraction.
For drivers who have two or more infractions that are considered very serious, 20 points will be totaled. In the case of very serious infractions committed only once, the limit will be 30 points. Finally, those who have not committed very serious infractions may have up to 40 points.
