Together with William Hanna he founded the Hanna-Barbera company in 1957, responsible for animation classics such as Tom & Jerry and The Flintstones. Joseph Barbera started his professional life as a banker, but dropped everything to devote himself to drawing. He died of natural causes on December 18, 2006, aged 95.
