The Federal Court of Auditors (TCU) estimated that 80% of the irregularities of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) originate from registration errors by beneficiaries. According to the information provided, between July and December 2021, around BRL 2.9 billion were passed on to pension beneficiaries and pensions because of irregularities that could have been avoided.

Analyzes were made of 36 million institute records on BRL 127 billion. More than 2.3 million inconsistencies were found, amounting to more than BRL 2.9 billion per year. In the analysis, the TCU highlights that the importance of balancing is useful to identify fraud in order to guarantee the best way of functioning.
In response to Portal iG, the INSS issued a note to communicate what was done in the balancing.
“So far, the institute has already identified that about 80% of the cases presented by the TCU have regular maintenance and require only registration adjustment in the Social Information base, that is, it is not about undue payments, but lack of updating cadastral."
More than 800 death pensions were cited that were paid to dependents above what is provided for by the national social security ceiling. There were cases of payment of pensions or pensions to people who had already died. In this regard, the institute says that the benefit cut happens almost automatically when the death is identified.
Of the irregularities, more than 880,000 cases were found in pensions for deaths: none of them had a death record. Problems with retirements relate to workers who did not have jobs registered with the RAIS.
Despite the data released, the institute does not foresee movement for re-registrations to be requested. They stated that the analyzes carried out by TCU will be considered and that it is part of the body to analyze pending issues.
