Our eyeballs capture light from the environment and this information is carried to a part of the brain called the visual cortex so that we can perceive what we are seeing.
The luminous information activates the photosensitive cells of the retina, which, when stimulated, initiate a process to carry the information to the higher central centers.
It is in the visual cortex that we build the representation of everything we learn from the world around us, which will include information like the shapes of objects, their colors and luminous intensities, their locations in space, as well as whether they move and where they go!
Seeing becomes more than detecting light and becomes a mental construct that guides our experiences and lives. So take good care of your eyes and select what you want to see or read!
