Who can access the FGTS?

The FGTS (Fundo de Garantia do Tempo de Serviço) is responsible for ensuring that the registered worker has an account with reserve amounts. This money is deposited by the employing company month by month during the working period. Its value is equivalent to 8% of the salary paid to the employee.

Thus, any worker (rural, domestic, temporary, independent, saffron and registered professional athlete) is entitled to maintain this FGTS account.

When can I withdraw the FGTS?

As this is a security fund, it can only be withdrawn on extraordinary occasions, check out some:

  • Buying your own home;
  • Suspension of part-time work;
  • HIV;
  • Inactive account;
  • Death of the individual employer;
  • Early termination or termination of contract;
  • Dismissal without just cause;
  • Termination due to mutual fault or force majeure;
  • Extinction of the company;
  • Retirement;
  • Death of the worker;
  • Cancer;
  • Over 70 years old.

What is the anniversary withdrawal?

Since 2020, the FGTS allows the worker to withdraw part of the FGTS during his birthday month. This benefit is not mandatory, and if accessed, the worker is prevented from making the full withdrawal due to dismissal. Check the table that determines the value of the benefit:

Balance range limit (in BRL) Aliquot Additional Installment (in BRL)
Up to 500 50% –
From 500.01 to 1,000 40% 50
From 1,000.01 to 5,000 30% 150
From 5,000.01 to 10,000 20% 650
From 10,000.01 to 15,000 15% 1.150
From 15,000.01 to 20,000 10% 1.900
Above 20,000.01 5% 2.900

It is important to remember that, in April 2022, the Federal Government authorized the extraordinary FGTS withdrawal. Through it, workers with a balance in the fund can redeem amounts of up to R$ 1,000. The payment schedule runs until June this year.

What documents are needed to withdraw the FGTS?

To request the withdrawal of the benefit, go to a Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF) agency with the following documents:

  • Identity document;
  • Employment card or other document identifying the linked FGTS account;
  • Proof of Enrollment in PIS/PASEP.

After that, Caixa will evaluate your request, and if accepted, the amount will be sent to one of your accounts to be withdrawn. Another option is accessing the FGTS application, from the comfort of home.
