The grumixameira, despite being so Brazilian even in name, is very little known to the general population. It was one of the favorite fruits of writer Monteiro Lobato, who became famous for his stories for children. He used to call the fruit a Brazilian cherry. Although threatened, the grumixameira begins to reappear in gardens and squares, as an ornamental tree, because it grows slowly. It is a good option for urban afforestation also because it hardly exceeds 10 meters in height, but it already guarantees good shade. In addition, the grumixameira produces fragrant flowers and sweet and sour fruit, a taste that is much appreciated by animals.
