What is autophagy

what is autophagy? A autophagy it is a type of cellular recycling, which degrades and reabsorbs components of the cell itself that are no longer useful or are not functioning correctly during the metabolism.

Through the process of autophagy, the organism is able to eliminate tumor cells, healthy cells, organelles worn or aged, among other structures.

Components that result from deleted structures, such as proteins, are completely reused by the cells.

This is a process of great importance to maintain balance in the functioning, production and elimination of cells in an organism.

For autophagy to occur, the cell encompasses a part of its own cytoplasm that contains the structure to be degraded, giving rise to a vacuole autophagy known as an autophagosome.

This autophagosome binds to a lysosome for its digestive enzymes to degrade the contents of the vacuole.
