NAME:
A wealthy old merchant was walking along the market street with his servant. Suddenly, a worker carrying a heavy bag tripped over it and the two fell to the ground. The servant helped his master to his feet, just waiting to hear a lot of loud and angry words from the old merchant for being so rudely mistreated.
However, the merchant simply apologized to the worker and asked his servant to help put the bag on the worker's back again. The worker thanked the servant and proceeded slowly.
The servant then asked the merchant why he apologized to a humble worker. The merchant smiled and said:
- That man was not to blame. His back was bent with the heavy load. I should have seen him approach and let him pass. Why should I blame you for my carelessness?
Upon hearing this, the servant had great respect for his wise master.
