Text interpretation and grammar activity

the fish memory

The place had a lot of good places. However, Ade and Amis liked the shade of the old fig tree better. But sometimes, when it got dark, they had to get out of there because of the mosquitoes. Old Amis explained that fish liked to travel upriver to make love.

But when they grew up, the little fish chose the calm waters of the bays, which the river formed far below.

The little girl listened to Amis as she watched the waders climbing in rows of three, sometimes in rows of four or five, upstream.

More to the middle of the river, a school of piraputangas also rose. From time to time she saw ripples they caused when they swam almost at the top of the water.

– Amis, Amis, called the little girl.

– What is it, Ade?

– Amis, there are things in my life that I've already forgotten.

- And?

– That's why I wanted to know. These fish, swimming, non-stop, against the current.

The old man frowned.

– I wish – continued the little girl – I wanted to know what it is like. Do these fish remember the bays from your childhood?

Old Amis hugged that girl named Ade. He hugged that little girl really tight. He wanted her never to forget.
