For thousands of years, rainwater washed the rocks, dissolving some of the salts that make them up. Runoff waters annually dump millions of tons of minerals into marine trenches. Sea waters are saltier than continental waters because of evaporation, which causes a constant and particular salinization of each sea. To give you an idea, sea water is made up of 3.5% salts, including sodium chloride, which is the same substance that makes up table salt.
