In the region of the pampas, the soil is fertile. Therefore, these fields are normally sought for the development of agricultural activities.
Even more fertile are the areas with soil like “terra roxa”, named after the name they received from the Italians who came to Brazil to work in the fields. Because of its reddish color, they called the soil terra rossa, because in Italian, rosso
it's red. But whoever started calling it terra roxa didn't know Italian and ended up confusing it rosso with purple because of the sound of the word...In plateau areas, the soils are also reddish, but lack the fertility of terra roxa. On the coastal plain, the soil is quite sandy.
Some areas of the pampas are undergoing a process of desertification, due to the removal of native vegetation and its replacement by monocultures or pastures.
