Curiosity of the day

Do you know how stroganoff came about? Russian soldiers used to transport pieces of meat in barrels, using coarse salt and brandy as preservatives. To prepare the meal they added onions to the meat. During the reign of Peter the Great, the dish was perfected by a cook named Stroganov and ended up being named after him. In 1800, French chef Thierry Costet, working in Russia, added the noble ingredients: mushrooms, mustard, paprika and Worcestershire sauce.
