By the age of 19, Darwin's passion for collections was entirely turned to beetles. His fascination with these creatures and his obsession with obtaining new specimens for his collection was so great that, once, while looking for beetles under the bark of a tree, he ended up finding two interesting ________________ species that were soon captured and held one in each. hand. Seconds later, an even rarer species appeared and, not knowing what to do, Darwin took the insect in his right hand and put it between his teeth. With one hand free, he tried to catch the third beetle, but before he could do so, the one that was trapped between his teeth released a bitter liquid into his mouth. Frightened, Darwin spat the creature to the ground and, in the confusion, ended up losing the other two as well.
