Frame "The Scream" is being saved by quarantine

The visitors' breath was damaging the work.

You sure know the picture. The Scream, by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch. The famous work of the screaming man is 110 years old and has been fading for some time. Now, during the period of social isolation, researchers, who have been trying for three years to understand why by which the condition deteriorated, they discovered what is causing this effect: the breathing of the people who the visit. Therefore, according to the study published in the scientific journal

Science Advances, the quarantine is being essential so that he doesn't lose his colors altogether.

Before, the main hypothesis was that the yellow of the painting was losing its brightness and intensity because of the light from the museum where it is located – the Munch Museum, in Oslo, Norway. Therefore, it was shown only on special occasions. The hypothesis was discarded however when they realized that even in the dark the picture continued to fade.

Scientists have found that the yellow paint used by Munch undergoes chemical reactions when exposed to human breathing (since when breathing close to the work, people transfer moisture and compounds called chlorides). This only happens with the yellow paint ____________ the others have a different composition.

According to official representatives, the Much Museum intends to use the study's findings to discover the best way to keep the work preserved.
