First anti-COVID vaccine with mRNA technology in China is approved

The first anti-covid vaccine made with the aid of mRNA technology has begun to be produced in China, which promises better coverage of immunization.

This type of technology was already used for the production of vaccines by Pfizer and Moderna. According to Chinese health regulators, the new vaccine will be more potent and can be used in more severe cases of Covid-19.

Since the first studies that analyzed the effectiveness of vaccines to combat the coronavirus, it was noted that Chinese vaccines were less potent than immunizers produced in the West.

Now, with the use of mRNA technology, the Chinese government appears to be stepping up efforts to protect the population against the spread and worsening of coronavirus infections.

Previously, the Chinese population only had access to CoronaVac and Sinopharm vaccines, which are made with a different technology, considered by authorities to be less effective than mRNA.

In the technology previously adopted by China, vaccines are composed of dead coronaviruses. Once injected into the body, these “corpses” trigger the immune system, which recognizes and starts producing antibodies.

In the mRNA technology, the immunizer is composed of an RNA messenger, which in turn has the mission of producing the Spike protein. When this protein comes into contact with the virus, the immune system is triggered, thus creating antibodies.

According to the laboratory that is producing the new vaccine in China, the first tests are promising.

In addition, scientists also point to a reduction in the number and intensity of side effects of the new vaccine, when compared to the effects caused by the old vaccines.
