As much as they have high durability, leather bags are more sensitive to heat and humidity than if they were made of another material. Because of this, its cleaning must occur in a differentiated way.
It is also important to point out that the attitude of placing your leather bag in direct contact with the floor can end up staining or scratching the material. So always store it in airy and protected places.
Starting the cleaning, you should pass a – slightly – wet cloth over the entire external area of the bag, always being very careful not to wet the leather too much. If you want a deeper cleaning, you can also pass a little neutral detergent on the cloth and then gently rub the surface of the item.
That done, with the help of a dry cloth, remove all the moisture that has remained on the object, repeat this step as many times as necessary, in order to ensure that the material has dried. Finally, let the bag dry naturally in the shade, it is very important that it stays out of direct sunlight. Also, do not use a hairdryer.
Once completely dry, you can apply a body moisturizer or baby oil to give the bag a glossier, healthier finish.
To clean the inside of the bag, first make sure that the internal material is the same as the external one. If so, just repeat the same cleaning process, but if not, start by shaking the bag upside down to get as much dust and dirt out of that part.
Soon after, if possible, pull the inner upholstery out, and clean it with a solution of water and vinegar, you can use a sponge or a brush. But always being careful not to apply too much force to cleaning. Now all you have to do is keep the upholstery outside and hang it to dry following the same instructions as for external cleaning.
