In case you didn't know, internet access is considered a human and fundamental right, according to the United Nations Nations (UN), as digital inclusion enables the promotion of rights, such as freedom of expression and access to information. In addition, it is an essential tool in the teaching context.
The Covid-19 pandemic made the importance of the internet even more evident, as many students could only continue studies through online teaching, since distance learning was adopted in times of isolation Social. However, it should be noted that millions of Brazilians do not have access to the internet.
Students registered in CadÚnico who are studying from the 3rd year of elementary school or who are in high school can receive the chip with the data package free of charge.
First, still in the pilot phase, the chips will be granted to students from five northeastern cities: Mossoró (RN), Caruaru (PE), Caicó (RN), Petrolina (PE), Campina Grande (PB) and Juazeiro (BA).
The program will be implemented gradually, according to budgetary and financial availability, as well as the technical requirements necessary to offer the service and also the criteria for prioritization.
It will be the responsibility of the schools to receive and distribute the Internet Brasil chips, as well as register this division and store the chips that are not delivered to students benefiting from the program.
The law that established Internet Brasil was sanctioned at the end of May this year by President Jair Bolsonaro, but the program was created in December 2021, through a Provisional Measure. However, the implementation process was consolidated only at the end of April.
