The thief and the money changer

A money changer was going home with a bag full of gold when a thief saw him and followed him to his house. The money changer put the bag on a shelf and asked his servant to bring him some water. So she went inside. The servant brought the water and met her master, leaving the door open. The thief entered the house and took the bag.

When the thief was some distance away, it dawned on him that the money changer would punish the poor servant for not finding the gold. He decided to save the girl in such a way that he didn't have to lose the gold.
He returned to the money changer's house and found him beating the servant. He knocked on the door and said:
– Kind sir, is this your bag? My boss found him in front of his shop, where you left him.
Seeing his bag, the money changer went to get it, but the thief said:
- I can give you this when you write on a paper that received it.
As soon as the money changer came in to get a paper, the thief ran away with the bag of gold, and he also managed to save the servant from punishment.
