NAME:
In the world of domestic animals, pigs have always been discriminated against. They are considered the dirtiest, filthiest and messiest animals in the animal kingdom. In other words, “pigs”.
Perhaps this prejudice exists precisely because people who had the opportunity to see a pig taking a bath, combing its hair, washing its ears, trimming its hoof and wearing deodorant.
It was this kind of prejudice that occupied the thoughts of Gabriela Galinha, Clóvis Coelho and Doutor Raposo when they saw that the new resident of the building they lived in would be a pig.
Gabriela Galinha was the first to twist her beak and mumble: “My God! It's…a pig! A pig that comes to live here! That's not possible. Everyone knows pigs are messy, dirty and muddy.” Clóvis Coelho and Dr. Raposo agreed fully with the words of the neighbor and soon began to look for defects in the behavior of the new inhabitant.
During his move, the Pig dropped some pieces of firewood on the sidewalk and a sack of flour on the building's stairs. He still left some clay footprints in the hallway. The neighbors, seeing that dirt, thought that the building would turn into a pigsty. What the animals didn't see was that the pig himself took care of cleaning everything. Eroded by prejudice, they preferred to pay more attention to the act of getting dirty than to the act of cleaning the new resident.
With their breath exhaling rage, the Chicken, the Rabbit and the Fox decided to take satisfaction as a Pig for their “nut” behavior. Through a simple and straightforward conversation, they discover that it was the pig himself who cleaned up all the mess. Embarrassed, they realize they have prematurely judged their new neighbor.
This story that reveals in a simple way how prejudice can prevent people from seeing the truth, shows children, in a simple way, how prejudice is born as a meaningless feeling and reason. A feeling that is born within the one who feels and not the one who suffers, prejudice.
