Plateaus and plateaus, slopes where rivers are born, low plains and paths (wet areas subject to flooding) are the main landscapes of Jalapão. The region is characterized by its very fragile sandstone rocks and subject to erosion caused by wind and rain.
Speaking of rain, a curious fact is that the water easily penetrates the sand, forming large underground aquifers. In some spots, known as fervedouros, water spurts out of the ground so hard that it's impossible to sink – and so much fun to swim! For this reason, fervedouros are among the main tourist attractions in Jalapão.
Its vegetation is open, typical of the Cerrado, and is home to many animals, including more than 200 species of birds and 60 species of birds. mammals, including, for example, the jaguar, the vine dog, the otter and the sand-capita, a small-eyed rodent very big.
