Nasrudin was on the bank of a river and wanted to cross over. The current was very strong and it would be impossible to swim across it.
That's when Nasrudin saw a small canoe stuck in the riverside vegetation. He quickly put the boat in the water and began to paddle to the other side. With the help of the canoe, he quickly reached the other bank. As soon as he set foot on solid ground, he grabbed the canoe, slung it onto his back, and set off towards the forest.
Some people, who had watched the whole scene, were astonished by Nasrudin's unexpected attitude. They went and asked him, “Why did you put the canoe on your back? What good will it do you now that you've crossed the river?"
Nasrudin then, already a red man, sweating and tired from the effort of carrying the boat on his back, replied: “This canoe helped me a lot to cross the river. I cannot abandon her. I hope that now she will also help me to cross the forest.”
So are we. We become attached to the past and make it a heavy burden in our lives.
