The Individual Microentrepreneur (MEI) category, which was created more than 10 years ago, reached more than 11 million subscribers in 2020, according to Federal Revenue data. However, a survey showed that 24% of small and medium-sized companies closed their doors in February 2021.
It should be noted that the main reason for closing the activities of microentrepreneurs is the lack of sufficient income, something that has been especially potentiated during the coronavirus pandemic in the last two years. Therefore, alternatives to provide credit to these workers are so important.
SIM Digital, which is the Digital Microcredit Simplification Program for Entrepreneurs, is in operating since the first quarter and uses resources from the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS).
It is important to mention that SIM Digital loans, which are contracted by Caixa Tem, have already been able to benefit more than 1 million citizens Brazilians, and with the approval of the increase in values, the federal government predicts that approximately 4.5 million entrepreneurs can be beneficiaries.
Deputy Luis Miranda (Republicans) made a proposal to increase the amount of credit made available according to the contractor's profile. In this sense, individuals can currently request up to BRL 1 thousand, while MEIs can claim up to BRL 3 thousand.
From this, the plan is to increase the limit to R$ 1,500 for individuals, and, on the other hand, make up to R$ 4,500 available for micro-entrepreneurs. It should be noted that the priority of the program is to encourage productive activities and the provision of services in the country.
If the provisional measure is approved in the remaining instances (the text will still go to the Federal Senate), the financing can be offered in private and public banks and, regarding the term for payments, it can be up to 24 months.
