On the 17th of May, the International Day to Combat Homophobia was celebrated. Therefore, in order to make the population aware of the date, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul is offering a free online course in National LGBT Health Policy.
Therefore, the course brings basic concepts related to the LBGT community. Such as what is sexual orientation, gender identity, color and race. This is because many of these subjects still carry social stigmas, or are just unknown by the population.

In this way, based on the assumption that knowledge is power, the objective of the course is to bring understanding about these themes. The target audiences are health, social assistance, education and public safety professionals.
However, the course is open to professionals from other areas who are interested in learning more about the topics covered by the initiative.
The workload is 30 hours. In addition, it was divided into two modules, addressing topics such as: right to health and rights sexual and National Policy for the Comprehensive Health of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transvestites and Transsexuals at SUS.
Other topics will also be part of the course, such as gender identity and expression, intersectionality and equity. As well as human and sexual rights and violence.
The course was organized by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in partnership with the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Sul (IFRS). The State Government and the Ministry of Health (SES-RS) are also project partners.
The course is offered in partnership with the Federal Institute, the government and the Ministry of Health of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. In addition, the action derives from the project “The National Policy on Comprehensive Health for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transvestites and Transsexuals (LGBT): analysis, evaluation and training strategies for the improvement of the Unified System of Health".
The inter-institutional research project was carried out between the organizers mentioned above, and the Federal States of Santa Catarina and Paraná.
