The life of recyclables collectors in Brazil has never been easy, in addition to living with prejudice, with the lack of care when throwing the garbage, they suffer from precarious living conditions.
According to a survey carried out by the Federal Government, there are around one million collectors in the country. Most of them are women who survive on an average monthly income of R$930, around 23.3% less than the minimum wage.
In addition, so that one day they can retire, there is the possibility of becoming MEI, but need to pay BRL 60.60 per month to formalize and be entitled to Social Security Social.
All of this, for people earning around R$900.00, represents a very high cost in the monthly bill, causing many to stop paying.
The Recicla+ program is a Federal Government initiative that aims to provide an allowance to these professionals who are often treated at the margins of society.
Thus, Recicla+, which will be granted to collectors who are registered as Individual Microentrepreneurs (MEI) and issue an invoice for their waste. The idea is that they can invest in the registration as MEIs and have access to aid and other benefits.
The goal is for the allowance to be between R$ 200 and a maximum of R$ 350, working with the support of other companies that will have an agreement. It will be a two-way help, both for the collectors and for the companies, as both will receive it. However, the project still needs to get off the ground.
