Injury records made Anvisa prohibit the sale of ointment in RJ

Recently, Cassu Braids ointments, by MicroFarma, were withdrawn from the shelves of establishments in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Under the coordination of the Municipal Institute of Sanitary Surveillance (Ivisa), 16 locations were visited on the last 12th to receive proper inspection.

Through a note, Ivisa expressed itself saying that complaints about these products can be made to the City Hall. “In cases of adverse effects resulting from the use of these products, the recommendation is to seek a health unit, taking the bottle, so that due notifications are made to the responsible bodies for investigation”, he informed.

Operation of Ivisa in Rio de Janeiro

The action took place after more than 150 consumers reported serious injuries to their eyes after using Cassu Braids ointment, to style their hair, manufactured by MicroFarma Indústria e Comércio. There were reports of swelling in the eye area and great eye irritation, pain and even difficulty seeing.

On January 5, the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) had decreed the sale of the product as prohibited. The first operation was performed on Tuesday (10). Anvisa reported that the company that manufactured the ointment did not have a health license to operate and had the release canceled in 2016.

In the last operation, carried out on January 12, Ivisa agents did not find the ointment being sold in Rio de Janeiro and all had already been withdrawn.

However, other products were found with irregularities and were promptly seized by the action. With that, shopkeepers will have up to seven days to present the invoice of the products for the proper identification of the distributors of these irregular cosmetics.

During the operation, around 101 products were seized, including: Master Hair, Twister, EWA, Trança Amiga, King Braids, KG Cosméticos and Barba Negra.

And it is worth mentioning: before consuming products of any cosmetic kind, make sure that there is Anvisa registration on the packaging, and also look for the expiry date of the product.
