Who scored the 1,000th Cup goal was Dutchman Rob Rensenbrink.
The historic milestone occurred in 1978 at the World Cup in Argentina. The Dutch team was doing well in their second group game against Scotland. Even at the beginning of the match, Rensenbrink scored the thousandth goal in the history of the World Cups.
Despite losing the game 3-2, the Netherlands progressed to the next stage and then to the final against home: Argentina. In the 36th minute of the second half, the Netherlands managed to tie the score at 1-1 and went into injury time.
At that moment, Rensenbrink was faced with the opportunity to take, for the first time, the title to the Netherlands. However, he hit the post and the host country took the title 3-1.
