INSS should cancel thousands of benefits within 5 months

O INSS prepares for yet another review in search of errors in the payment of benefits. Basically, this fine-tooth comb seeks to identify which beneficiaries have an advantage due to operational errors in Social Security. Thus, it is expected to save billions of reais in the cancellation of benefits of the INSS that should not be paid. As a consequence, thousands of Brazilians who stabilized with the help of Social Security aid will have to prepare to lose the amount.

INSS must withdraw benefits with errors

One of the reasons that led the INSS to carry out this new review is precisely the suspected increase in benefit fraud. For example, there are cases of receipt of retirement benefits by the children or spouses of beneficiaries who have already died. In this case, the person does not properly notify the death, nor send the necessary documentation to Social Security.

In this way, the INSS seeks to end these benefits and also penalize those involved. After all, this practice is a crime of embezzlement, as set out in Article 171 of the penal code, with a prison sentence ranging from one to five years. In addition, Social Security can also claim the amount if there is proof of fraud.

Who should lose the benefit?

There are other operational errors that make it possible to pay benefits unduly, and the INSS aims to extinguish all of them. See the complete list of which beneficiaries are expected to lose INSS aid soon:

• case of fraud;
• Absence of movement of INSS resources in at least two months;
• Non-attendance on the day, time and place of the medical examination, except in cases with due justification;
• End of death pension payment in cases where the benefit is not lifetime;
• Out-of-date CadÚnico data for beneficiaries of the Continuous Provision Benefit;
• Accumulation of two pensions or benefits of the same nature.

Furthermore, any error or non-compliance with the law will result in withdrawal of payments. For cases of outdated data in CadÚnico, citizens can resort to the CRAS of their city or region to make the updates.
