Do plants sleep?

The flowers open in the morning and close at night. Have you noticed how this happens? Are they sleeping?

Yea! They “sleep” at night! And what makes them sleep is the circadian rhythm, just as it happens to humans.

The circadian rhythm of living beings lasts approximately 24 hours, that is, it follows the Earth's rotational movement.

This means that plants, animals and human bodies recognize that night is the time to rest, and day is the time to stay awake and do activities.

So, when we say that plants are “sleeping”, it is because they interrupt certain processes that they only do with sunlight, during the day.

Light and dark trigger mechanisms in plants to produce substances that control growth and development.

Plants may not be able to get up and hunt for food, but during the day they move slightly to maximize their exposure to solar energy.

They absorb sunlight to make energy through photosynthesis and at night turn their attention to metabolizing the energy and using it to grow.
